Question: Home business (music lessons) can i get into the yellow pages?
(Posted by: strangemelodies on 2009-07-13 16:40:26)
I created a separate studio in my home, though it is zoned as single family residential. I'd like as much exposure as possible. Thank you. |

You may have to pay business rates for your phone service in order to get the standard yellow page listing - upgrade from there. However, I'm not sure that is where I would put money for your type business. I would rather get a personal referral for a music teacher. When I am looking for a plumber in the middle of the night - the guy in the yellow pages who has "24 hour emergency service " will get my call. When I want more personal service - nails, hair, massage, private lessons - I want to hear some good words from someone who has actually been to the person. Also, operating out of your house you do not want to draw undo attention so it can not be listed as a location if it is not licensed or zoned for commercial. Communities will let it slide if the neighbors do not complain, but if there is lots of traffic or noise, you can be closed down. Just think about your target customer and get your information distributed there - schools, church or places where concerned parents take their kids to give them a well rounded education (kids museums - library reading programs etc). Good luck. I was assuming you work with kids - it may retired people who have time on their hands and want to stay active - totally different set of locations to promote yourself. |

You get into the yellow pages by purchasing a listing. Contact your local yellow pages provider. (Should be listed in the front of the book, or in the listings under publishers.) |

If your talking about the physical yellow pages....you will get ZERO exposure. The yellowpages are the worst place on the entire panet to advertise. Those books are closed 99% of the time ( actual statistic) and your ad will be smack in the middle of everyone else offering the same thing you do..so yeah..thats the last place you want people going to look for music lessons. The same monthly money you spend in that book you could spend sending postcards directly to homes with children. Why wait for them to go looking for you when you can introduce yourself at their mailbox every day. ...isn't the mailbox one of the very firstplaces you go when you get home? ...yeah..and so it is with everyone else. even at 2% response rate that will be at least 600% more people that respond than from the yellowpages in a years time. Good Luck |
